The revival and dissemination of Greek and Byzantine literature in the West is due to Aldus Manutius and his close Greek collaborators: M. Mousouros, D. Doukas, Justinus Decaeus and Ioannis Grigoropoulos. Monumental works were published by Aldus’ publishing house and under the supervision of these scholars, such as Aristotle’s Apanda and Plato’s Dialogues, as well as the Comedies of Aristophanes and the Tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, as well as historical works by Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon. This publication discusses Aldus’ involvement with Greek typography and addresses issues related to the aesthetics of his publications.
