Significant remains of houses, sanctuaries and public buildings dating from the 2nd millennium B.C. have been revealed at Akrotiri, on the southern end of Thera. Along with the pottery and various other objects, superb wall-paintings were brought to light that attest to the flowering of an advanced civilisation in this part of the Aegean. This volume is devoted to the publication of the finds from the first excavations conducted on Thera by Sp. Marinatos from 1967 to 1971.
